House Approves Chrysler, GM Dealer-Reinstatement Legislation

From Washington comes potentially bad news for Chrysler Group and General Motors Company: yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation that would reinstate 789 Chrysler dealers and around 2520 GM dealers to their respective networks.
To recap: the dealers in question were cut from the two companies' networks during the Chrysler/GM restructurings. The dealers argue that they were eliminated unfairly and that they should be given the opportunity to make a
Colorado Representatives Fight Back: GM and Chrysler Accused of Mistreating Dealers

The auto industry has been in a state of flux for the last year, however, in the last 6 months things have really heated up as you can read from my previous report on the state of the auto industry. It isn't all bad, especially with people like Chris Kilcullen who are starting up campaigns like Test Drive America, a promotion focused on getting American buyers to buy American again (read more here). June 2009 Dodge Challenger Sales Figures Released

Sales of the Dodge Challenger for June of 2009 were 1,369 compared to 1,024 from June of 2008 showing a 34% increase in sales from the previous year. Year to date Challenger sales are 15,082 compared to 1,095 for 2008, which is a 1277.6% gain. The large gain is due to the fact Challengers were only being sold for one solid month and a few days in 2008, so the small figure represents a very small time frame.
Month to Month sales on the other hand were very disappointing for the

Remember when General Motors said the company wasn't going to be in a position to help promote Transformers 2 the way it had hoped? Turns out that's not such a big deal. Despite GM's cutbacks, and despite the film's lukewarm reviews, the product-placement payoff has been huge for GM. In fact, the company is expecting that sales of the Chevy Camaro--the vehicular form of the film's popular Bumblebee character--should hit around 9,000 for June, up from 5,463 in May. Let's see Chrysler's
Sales Slump Slowing: Annual Rate Could Hit 10 Million Mark

Potentially good news for automakers this morning: industry analysts predict that when June's sales stats are tabulated, the seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) for light vehicle sales may hit 10 million. That would mark the first time sales have crossed that symbolic line during this calendar year, and it could be a sign that things are finally stabilizing--at least for buyers.
Unfortunately, auto sales will still be down when viewed in the light of year-over-year
Tesla CEO Musk is at it Again, Now Taking Shots at GM, Ford, Chrysler, and Unions

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is at it again, causing yet another stir with some comments he recently made. This time the focus in on the fall of GM and Chrysler, and you can throw Ford in the mix too.
According to Musk, "Great companies are built on great products, when those products take a turn for the worse, so does the company. Automakers focused too much on money rather than innovation. The path to the CEO's office should not be through the CFO's, and it
2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Light Duty Diesel Canceled

Since the introduction of their all-new Dodge Ram 1500 last summer, Chrysler made it clear that their 2010 Ram 1500 would have a clean and green diesel option. In January, Chrysler said it was delaying the introduction of the diesel light-duty Ram until at least 2011. Frank Klegon, then Chrysler's executive vice president of product development, cited stricter federal emissions standards and the high cost of diesel fuel in announcing the change.
