General Motors Bankruptcy Saga Continues

In case you were wondering, we haven't said much about General Motors' bankruptcy trial because there hasn't been much to report. The government still hasn't budged on its July 10 deadline to see the General out of bankruptcy or liquidated; GM is still trying to sell off bad assets like superfund sites and golf courses so it can make a fresh start; and investors are still challenging the bankruptcy and the fed's deadline. Another round of hearings has just
A Garage Sale For GM

In the market for a golf course? How about a toxic dump? Perhaps a parking lot in Flint, Michigan is more your speed? Get your checkbooks ready, because those three properties and many other holdings are about to be sold off as "bad assets" by General Motors (aka "Old GM"), so that the General can emerge from bankruptcy court as a lean, mean, automaking machine ready to tackle the unique challenges of the 21st century (aka "New GM"). We've got dibs on Lutz's box of vintage Swedish Eroticas, but everything
BREAKING: Whitacre to Be New GM Chairman

General Motors says Edward E. Whitacre, Jr., will be its new chairman.
The former AT&T chief and ExxonMobil board member will lead newly downsized automaker as it seeks a way out of the government fold when the company is launched later this summer, a GM press release says. Interim chairman Kent Kresa will give up his seat when Whitacre takes over, likely to oversee the sell-off of "old" General Motors assets that remain.

Report: Fiat Already In Buyer’s Remorse Over Chrysler?

Fiat has shown the first signs that its alliance deal with Chrysler may not be all that it had hoped for, revealing late Friday that it has some concerns and that any further delays may jeopardize the whole deal. In a filing submitted by Fiat to the U.S. District Court in Manhattan to reject a request by a group of pension funds wanting to postpone the sale of Chrysler's assets, the Italian auto giant said that it is "already concerned" about the "deteriorating value" of the
Chrysler’s Outpatient Bankruptcy Likely To End On Schedule This Week

Hold on to your hats, folks: it looks like the federal government's one-two punch of bailout and bankruptcy may be working. At least in Chrysler's case.
When the company was shunted into court almost a month ago, the feds set a fairly ambitious turnaround schedule: they wanted to see Chrysler emerge from bankruptcy within 30 days, and as of today, most experts think that's going to happen. Judge Arthur Gonzalez seems inclined to approve the filing, which
Elon fires back at Eberhard in Tesla lawsuit’s latest twist

Shortly after Tesla Motors co-founder Martin Eberhard filed a lawsuit against Tesla Motors and its Chairman, Product Architect and CEO Elon Musk, the Silicon Valley automaker had this to say:
This lawsuit is a fictionalized, inaccurate account of Tesla's early years -- it's twisted and wrong, and we welcome the opportunity to set the record straight. Incidentally, Tesla will also be filing counterclaims and in the process present an accurate account of the company's history.
The first bit
Supreme Court stays sale of Chrysler to Fiat

The sale of Chrysler's assets to Fiat have been delayed by Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg after three Indiana state pension funds lost their case in New York and filed papers with the highest court the land. Early reports indicate that this is only a temporary stay, with Ginsburg saying the sale is "stayed pending further order." Chrysler's lawyers have said the stay could cause the deal with Fiat to go under.

Top 7 Good Cars From “Bad GM”

General Motors makes more than a few world-class automobiles. As true as that statement may be, that alone wasn't enough to stall the automaker's steady decline - fueled as it may have been by the global economic downturn - into Chapter 11 bankruptcy. To expedite GM's return to viability, the Obama Administration plans to split the giant automaker into two parts, a so-called "Good GM" made up of GM's best assets and "Bad GM," which is what we're examining in today's Top Ten list.
In case you're not aware, Bad GM happens to include the entire lines
UAW reportedly agrees to 17.5% stake in GM

Facing a looming June 1 deadline to reach agreements with the bondholders and union, General Motors may have failed to come to terms with the former, but it has reportedly arrived at a tentative concessions agreement with latter. The deal puts the United Auto Workers' trust fund in charge of future health care costs in exchange for a 17.5% stake in the reorganized General Motors. The U.S. Treasury is still expected to take the controlling stake in the reorganized company.
In addition, the agreement calls for GM
Judge disconnects alleged car-warranty “robo-callers”

It's official. The Feds are pissed, too. On Thursday, a federal judge did what many of us have wanted to do for a long time now. He handed out restraining orders to two companies the Federal Trade Commission says have been calling you, me, all your friends, your 90-year-old blind grandmother, and anyone else without enough sense to ignore unidentified phone calls.
"Today the FTC has disconnected the people responsible for so many of these annoying robocalls," said FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz in a press release. "We expect to see a dramatic decrease in
