Ford Sales Reports From May Show Some Improvement

Ford Sales Reports From May Show Some Improvement

Given the considerable turmoil in the new-car market,  automakers are looking for any good news that they can find. In Ford’s case, the good news is that sales numbers for the month of May were an improvement over the previous month by 20 percent. Not only that, but the combined sales for Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury were 155,954, which is the best total for the company for any month since July of 2008.

Lincoln posted a two percent sales gain, and Ford claims the company set a record for hybrid sales in a single month. Thanks to the uptick in sales, Ford is going to increase production to 445,000 units for the second quarter, which is an increase of 10,000 units. The company says it is planning on production of 460,000 units in the third quarter, which would be an increase of 42,000 units from the third quarter of 2008.

It may be too early to say that the market is recovering, but increases in production are generally a good sign. Ford still faces plenty of challenges, but if anyone is looking for positive signs, improved sales and increased production fit the bill.
