Audi R8 Goes Electric. And Topless
Oh how we hope this is true - rumor has it Audi is bringing an electric version of the awesome R8 to the Frankfurt Motor Show and parking it alongside a drop-top.
Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport says Audi will finally unveil the R8 Spyder at the show. French moto-mag L’Automobile says it will be available with the 4.2-liter V8 producing 420 horsepower or the lovely 5.2-liter V10 good for 525.
As if that weren’t cool enough, Auto Motor says Audi also has an R8 EV conceptAudi will unveil next-gen A8 in November
The current Audi A8 has been on sale since 2003 and since that time has only received a minor facelift to keep it fresh alongside the updated Mercedes Benz S-Class, Lexus LS and new BMW 7-series. The minor styling changes implemented during the recent facelift will have to soldier on for at least another year as the next-generation 'D4' A8, according to Audi CEO Rupert Stadler, won't arrive until the second half of next year as a 2011 model
Speaking at the carmaker's annual meeting, Stadler said the new A8Audi reveals TT RS Roadster
A roadster version of the Audi TT RS will be available alongside the coupe when it goes on sale in the UK tomorrow.
It will be powered by the same 335bhp 2.5 litre five-pot engine as the TT RS coupe, and will get to 62mph in a claimed 4.7sec.Both cars share similar specifications, so the roadster will get the coupe’s four-wheel-drive quattro system, cross-drilled brakes and a suspension system upgraded over the standard TT.

The first two U.S.-spec Audi R8 V10s were sold at an auction in Boca Raton, Florida to raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County. The first Stateside-bound ten-cylinder R8 went for $500,000, easily topping the earlier winning bid for one of the first Ferrari Californias. Audi officials, stoked by the bids of the R8, decided to put R8 number-two on the block which fetched $350,000 -- the same amount paid for the Ferrari. The two R8s not only carry the designation of being the first V10 models sold in the U.S., but will also be built during Audi's 100th anniversary. Let's see what they fetch in 2039.

Audi TT RS, RS5 coming Stateside
Until the Frankfurt Motor Show returns to Germany later this year, the Geneva Motor Show is the closest thing to home for Germany's automakers, and Audi's not about to let the opportunity pass it by. So we're expecting the four-ringed circus to roll in from Ingolstadt with several significant premiers.
First up, the long-awaited and highly-anticipated debut of the Audi TT-RS. The highest level of the stylish little coupe, is expected to pump some 340 horsepower from its 2.5-liter turbo five through Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system and S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox. Audi is also expected to take the wraps off of the first A4 Allroad, which follows its A6-based big brother by modifying the A4 Avant wagon with extra body cladding and higher road clearance. Lastly, we're expecting to see the final, production version of the A5/S5 cabrio, replacing the previous A4 cabrio with the sleeker coupe-based variant. Who knows, maybe Audi will even give us a glimpse of its new R15 racer, slated to debut around the same time at Sebring.
Geneva 2009: New Audi A4 Allroad debuts, reportedly may come to U.S. after all
Audi has rolled out its new 2010 Audi A4 Allroad here at the Geneva Motor Show, and while the turbocharged stiltswagon wasn't originally expected to reach U.S. dealerships, word coming out of the show from Automotive News is that this is under discussion. As you may recall, Audi's very first Allroad, the A6-based softroader, was sold from 2000 to 2005 in the U.S, but the second-generation range (currently on sale in Europe) never made it to America because of the initial model's slow sales.
The flared-fender A4 Allroad goes on sale in Europe as you read this (base price: 37,100 Euros - about $46,700 USD), carrying under its hood a 211-horsepower, 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder or one of two TDI diesels – either a 2.0-liter (170 hp) or a 3.0-liter (240 hp). Presumably, if America gets the A4 Allroad at all, it will receive the gas engine variant only where it would match up as a premium-price alternative to the Subaru Outback and forthcoming Saab 9-3X. Of course, Audi may decide to once again import the A6-based Allroad instead – or pass on both altogether, so stay tuned. High-res gallery of live shots below
